Call To Worship
2 Timothy 4:3 (KJV) For
the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after
their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching
ears;
Worship...you get out of it, what you put into it.
The member who does their nails, plays with their phone, or carries on conversations with others during church time, cheats themselves out of the opportunity for spiritual growth.
"Playing church" is becoming an all-too-familiar pastime. We show up for the programs, dinners, and activities, hopeful for entertainment. Our eyes, our senses, even our minds crave diversion. Busyness helps us avoid thinking seriously on holy things.
We must look inward and examine our motives. Why are we attending church, if not to learn about the person that is Christ? Our souls should ache for communion with the Beloved One.
Matthew 5:6 (KJV) Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
To paraphrase a line from the musical Auntie Mame, "God's a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death!"

Notable Quote:
"May our Lord's sweet hand square us and hammer us, and strike off all kinds of pride, self-love, world-worship, and infidelity, so that He can make us stones and pillars in His Father's house."--Samuel Rutherford
