Summer of Psalms: Part of the Family

Image
Wabash Depot, Chillicothe, MO. My grandfather arrived home from WWII at this station. Psalm 68:5-6 (KJV) A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation. God setteth the solitary in families:  The Hubster, my mother and I attended a family reunion in Missouri last weekend. It's a marvelous thing to be among those who know you best. They've seen me at my worst and best and love me still. When you become a Christ Follower, you are welcomed into the family of God. Believers are accountable to each other, and an encouragement. In my congregation, we call it "church family." We are supportive, in the good times and bad. People begin as believers in all sorts of conditions, with many types of family situations. Family Reunion

Image
Great River Bridge over the Mississippi in Burlington, IA I arrived home this afternoon from a family reunion in Burlington, Iowa. Nestled on a hill overlooking the mighty Mississippi River, this picturesque village was full of historic homes and shady, green parks. We had a blast getting to know each other again after three years apart. At the picnic held in Dankwardt Park, I presented my cousin, Becca Ballew McDermott, with custody of our family's tangerine talisman, Orange Fuzzy Ballew . He will have fun on her Iowa farm with Becca, her husband and four adorable kids. We took a historic home tour, golfed, swam, played card games, watched fireworks, ate a bunch and just generally partied for two days straight. It doesn't really matter what we did...we reconnected. And that is what families should. You can't pick your family, but I sure was blessed with the greatest bunch of folks to love. *** Female in Motion Exercise Update: I did three disco aerobic worko...

Orange Fuzzy Plays Flat Stanley

Orange Fuzzy Ballew is a venerated member of my family. He has resided in my home for the last two and a half years, presented to me at the last Ballew family reunion by my darling aunt, Nancy Ballew Anderson. (If you are not familiar with O.F. Ballew, please click this link to read his history. http://fim-carol.blogspot.com/2010/07/legend-of-of-ballew.html ) While I have enjoyed having him taking up space, er...sitting on my desk, I decided it was time Orange Fuzzy had some adventures. The next Ballew family reunion will take place sometime during the summer of 2013, and I plan to have a full scrapbook to present to the next lucky Ballew who receives guardianship of this tangerine-colored talisman. When we entered the infusion center late this morning, O.F. watched as Theresa, my infusion nurse, got me all settled in and hooked up. We lunched and did some work on the laptop, then the benedryl hit me and I napped a bit. My Texas Belle got her first caregiver massage and...
