Ten Years of Female in Motion

Image
Today is the tenth anniversary of the birth of this blog, Female in Motion. Every year on my birthday, my mom calls and tells me about the day I was born. So today, I will tell you about how I gave birth to this baby--my blog. I had been a client at Curves for several years. Remember the circuit training exercise franchises for women? Anyway, my location closed down, but another gym took its place. They purchased all the old equipment from Curves and hired the employees. When I went in to the grand opening, I was introduced to the owner. He mentioned that he was looking to build a social media presence and perhaps, a blog. One of the former Curves employees told him that I was a computer-savvy writer. He asked me to work out for a week at the new gym and write two sample blog posts. I did, and also set up a Facebook fan page for the business. He liked the writing and asked me to start a blog with the name of the gym: Female in Motion. The business didn't last long, but here...

Birthday Blog

Image
Female in Motion, one year ago. Today is my 51st birthday. My life has changed greatly since my 50th birthday. One year ago today, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I sat in the doctor's office, The Hubster by my side, and comforted them both. "It's okay," I said, "It's my turn. I'm going to be okay." ...And I am. I am strong, because He gives my strength. I am brave, because He is always beside me. I am positive, because He gives me peace. I am an encourager, because I am following His will for my life. My Savior has been by my side, every step of the way. I am so grateful...for my life, my family, my friends, my faith. I want no other. On Monday, I start six weeks of radiation treatments in Winfield, five days a week. Please continue to lift me up in prayer. I promise to bring your names to my Father's throne daily. If you comment on this post, or on the Female in Motion Facebook page, I will put your name in my prayer jo...

Female in Motion Does Relay for Life

Image
(Video courtesy of Samantha LaFantasie)  The Arkansas City Relay for Life event was held last Friday night at Wilson Park. There were five strong women on the Female in Motion team: my mom, Marilyn, my sister, Donna, my friends, Deanne and Samantha, and me. Our support team was there, too: The Hubster, my nephew, Nick, my cousin, Darci, our friends, Mark and Julie, and Sam's husband, Phil.  It was worth it. All the planning, shopping, coordinating, going to meetings, emailing and cajoling people to donate, dragging all the stuff to the park, and stressing...it was worth it. When I put on my Survivor t-shirt and held The Hubster's hand as we walked with everyone who was affected by cancer, I realized the reason I had done all of this. To make an impact in my community against cancer. Cancer is random. It strikes whomever it pleases. To try to make some sense out of this chaotic time in my life, I felt a purpose in organizing a Relay for Life team. It was humbling to...
