Graceful Rain

Photo courtesy of Twelve Timbers Matthew 6:34 (KJV) Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. When the Jews wandered in the desert for 40 years, God provided food for them. Manna fell from heaven each night and in the morning, the people gathered just enough for that day. If they tried to save some, it spoiled. The lesson taught to them by their Heavenly Father was to trust Him for all their needs and to focus on one day at a time. This daily blessing was completely from God--no other. It was freely given to all; they just had to accept it. Manna is a picture of the grace that God rains down on us each day. Great Expectations

Have you ever asked yourself (or God), why do people act that way?  Do you feel like you're floating alone in a lifeboat on the stormy sea of insanity? Why is it that folks just can't behave themselves? We have flaws of our own. At least, I do. Let's stop looking at others' missteps and focus on ours. We have enough problems to keep...

White-Knuckled Christians

Philippians 4:13 (KJV) I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. The Hubster and I talked to an Christian acquaintance a few years back. He was struggling with a sinful habit that he just couldn't beat. "I'm doing everything I can," he said, "I can't seem to stay away from it." We could almost feel his desperation. It was like he had his hands on the steering wheel, holding on for dear life. This guy was white-knuckling it. We've all been there. There is something in our lives that we know is keeping us from a deeper relationship with the Savior. We really want to give it up. Not thinking about it, avoiding old triggers and negative reinforcement aren't working for us. It seems like the tighter we bear down, the harder the temptation is to resist. And so we give in. Again and again. The downward spiral of failure puts us in a tailspin. Our intentions are honorable. We just can't seem to shake that nasty habit....
