Glorious Rest

Isaiah 11:10 (KJV) And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

When we were young, my brother and I had a sneaky way to get out of our afternoon naps. We begged Mom to lay between us on her big bed and read us a story. She was so tired, it wasn't long before she was asleep and Dave and I had the run of the place!

Any type of rest seems to be a precious commodity in the circles I run in today. It seems I absolutely have to be exhausted before I ask my Heavenly Father to intervene.

That's my mistake.

God works best through us when we are well-rested. Take time between each task to rest, reflect and inquire what His will is next. When we are prepared, our Lord can use us most effectively. Conversely, if we are depleted, stressed out and way too busy, He passes us over for another who is better suited for the job.

Rushing into the next mission isn't doing our Father any favors. We should act only as He leads. Our Savior's calm will destroy evil and build up good.

When we accept and absorb God's rest, our renewed and refreshed spirits are ready to be in the Lord's service.
