Hidden in Darkness

1 John 1:7 (KJV) But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

There is a dark, gloomy corner of my basement. That's where my laundry room resides. The overhead light from the middle of the room just can't seem to reach that murky place. The Hubster added a lamp, but all we had was a 40-watt bulb. Couldn't even call that a light--it seemed to be more dark than light. I had trouble losing socks and other small items, and couldn't identify and pre-treat stains. (Did I mention I'm a laundry fanatic?)

Recently, the weak bulb burned out, and I replaced it with a powerful, 100-watt bulb. What a difference! What was once dim and dreary, is now sharply defined. Socks are discovered; stains are vanquished at last.

Darkness is where guilt and shame reside. They grow like mushrooms--popping up and rapidly expanding as we try to cover and hide them. Satan dwells in the dark. He wants us to think we're all alone; that no one cares.

It's a lie.

I don't want to carry around guilt and shame. It's simply too heavy a load to bear. When I confess a hidden and dark secret to a trusted confidante, the burden lifts. As an added bonus, it becomes smaller and more manageable.

When we share the things we would rather have stay in the dark, our Heavenly Father shines His light, revealing that we have more in common with others. Those secrets can't bloom in the bright light of the Savior. They just wither and fade away.

If I have courage enough to share my failures, others may feel safe to do the same. And that's when God can truly bless and change lives.

Don't let the devil keep you from the intimacy that truth brings. Allow the Almighty to illuminate the darkness inside you.

Notable Quote:

"It is not darkness you are going to, for God is light. It is not lonely, for Christ is with you. It is not unknown country, for Christ is there."--Charles Kingsley
