God Shut the Door

Image
Genesis 7:13-16 (KJV) In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark; They, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort. And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life. And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in. While teaching Sunday School yesterday, my lesson plan called for the story of Noah and the ark. The two five-year-olds in my class were happily working on their coloring pages as I began to read from the Bible story book. It was a dark time on Earth, and people did not follow God. Only Noah and his family were righteous in His eyes. God spoke to Noah and instructed him to build a large boat,

Thankful Thoughts

Psalm 100:4 (KJV) Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. What am I thankful for? My darling Hubster. My sweet Mom. Two lovely daughters. A great church family. An old, warm sweatshirt. A full fridge. Warm home on a cold night. A good job that I love. Wonderful friends and family. Fat-free chocolate pudding. Get well cards from people who don't send cards. A cop who was just doing his job. A butcher who was just doing his job. A shy little boy to do puzzles with. Holding a sleeping baby. Hershey's Mint Truffle Kisses. Reconnecting with cousins. A place and time to write. A personal friendship with a living Savior. *** Notable Quote: "Thanksgiving Day is a jewel, to set in the hearts of honest men; but be careful that you do not take the day, and leave out the gratitude."--E.P. From the Heart

Ephesians 6:5-7 (KJV) Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: Every Sunday morning before we head off to church, the Hubster and I watch CBS Sunday Morning. It's the best thing on TV all week long. They feature positive news, with an emphasis on the arts. Yesterday, Sunday Morning did a story on Rooster Soup Company, a popular restaurant in Philadelphia. Food & Wine magazine just named it on their list of Top 10 New Restaurants in America. Their chef is a James Beard award winner. And they donate 100 percent of their profits to a soup kitchen.  The mission of Broad Street Ministry is to practice "radical hospitality." Run like a full-service, four-star restaurant, complete with table li

Take A Seat

Hebrews 10:11-12 (KJV) And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; Once a year, about this time, I volunteer to greet guests at Rainbows United's largest fundraiser of the year, Fashion Passion. It's a huge event with a buffet dinner, live and silent auctions, runway fashion show and over 650 guests dressed in their finest attire. After arriving between four and five in the afternoon, I grab a quick sandwich, change into my uniform, give final instructions to my team and prepare to say hello to our patrons. Throughout the evening, I help people find their seats, escort them to the check-in desk and make sure they have everything they need. The last guest usually leaves around 10-10:30 p.m., and then I help clean up and leave an hour or so later. Never once, during that evening, do I sit down.
