Standing by the Cross

Image
Photo courtesy of Inspiration Ministries John 19:23-27 (KJV) Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did. Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home . They all had reasons to be there that day. For the Roman soldiers, it was just another day at work

Chariots or Horses

I remember the day I decided to let go of my security blanket. Both times. Blankie was very special. And green. It made my thumb taste delicious. I miss him sometimes. The second time was different. The Hubster had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma a few months before, and we met with a counselor to help us deal with our future. He showed me that I had wrongly placed my security with my husband, and not with my Savior. That was a very hard day, but the more I released my husband, the more God showed up--in a big way. We place our trust in money, homes, possessions, and people--each one is temporal. Only Christ remains. If we allow God to show us exactly how powerful He really is, I believe our lives would be totally transformed. Let God be God. *** Notable Quote: "The Shepherd knows what pastures are best for His she

The Human Race

Marathon in Malaysia Hebrews 12:1-3 (KJV) Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us , and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. I've done a lot of running in my life--as part of training for soccer and track teams in school, and to stay healthy as an adult. There has also been some running away from hard things and dashing toward the wrong stuff. Notice that phrase in the Scripture above, "run with patience?" Being a Christ Follower is like running a marathon. I have to pace myself so that I have enough energy and stamina to

Deny, Deny, Deny

Luke 9:23 (KJV) And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. The apostle John said about Christ, "He must increase, but I must decrease." This is so contrary to what humans strive for today. We simply want to super-size everything. From the time I was very young, I was ambitious. I wanted to travel the world, achieve multiple college degrees, make piles of money and move to the Bahamas. The common denominator there was me, me, me. Where did God fit into this equation? When I stopped asking God why He was doing things to my life, and instead asked, "What can I learn from this, God?", my attitude improved and I found peace and contentment. My Heavenly Father has good plans for me if I will trust and follow Him. The world travel, degrees, money, and Bahamian home have never materialized. What I do have, is more than I dreamt and so much more than I deserve. I want to resemble Chris
