Precious Ointment

Image
Matthew 26:6-12 (KJV) Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat. But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. Twice a day, I slather Bag Balm all over my chest and under my right arm. It helps to keep the skin soft and protected. I am halfway through radiation treatment for breast cancer. My oncologist said to find something thick with no alcohol content. A couple of cancer buddies who have been through this already said Bag Balm is the best stuff. While the curren...

Friday Fuzzy Head

I wanted all of my precious readers to see the hair growth that is going on around here! It's interesting...the hair is coming back in the same order it fell: head first, eyelashes and eyebrows last. I even shaved my legs and underarms last weekend, for the first time in five months. Week #3 of radiation treatment is over, so I am already halfway home. I'll return to CTCA on April 15 for a checkup, then rest for two months before undergoing scans and tests to confirm I am cancer-free. Thank you for your continued support and prayerful concern. I am abundantly blessed from the hand of God! *** Mighty God of us all, thank you for this change of seasons, of new life and new growth. Change brings hope, and I see hope all around me and in me and even on me! As we approach Resurrection Day, open my eyes and heart to see renewal happening around me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Our Days Are Numbered

Image
Psalm 90:12 (KJV) So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. My daughters tease me. Every New Year's Day, I sit with my old calendar and my new one, transferring all the birthdays, anniversaries and important dates to remember. It's a ritual I have practiced for decades, marking the passage of time. People ask me, "How do you remember my birthday, every year?" "Easy," I say, "It's on the calendar." When I was a child, every year on my birthday, I received a card from a very special person. Mrs. McConnell was a very old woman, who had been my mother's landlady, at one time. She and I shared a birthday. Mrs. McConnell wrote kind words on the card, about her hopes and dreams for my life. I counted on that card being in the mailbox every February 22. It made me feel special and important. That's why I keep my calendar so diligently. I want the people in my life to feel every bit as special and...

Bless Your Heart!

Hebrews 13:5 (KJV) Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. You know that family. The ones you see around town, or maybe they sit in front of you at church. They are perfectly dressed, kids well-behaved, beautiful home, two new cars and a European vacation every summer. Their lives seem...perfect. The sun always seems to shine over their heads--and never over yours. It is hard not to covet other people's blessings. God made mighty promises to Abraham, Moses and others in Bible times. These folks were given large families, land and riches. We witness miracles around us every day; healing, safety and even big, fat checks. Do we really believe that could happen to us? Whatever God says to one of us, he says to all His children. When He feeds one hungry soul, He feeds them all. The blessings that are bestowed on one saint are available to all His children. The...

Birthday Blog

Image
Female in Motion, one year ago. Today is my 51st birthday. My life has changed greatly since my 50th birthday. One year ago today, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I sat in the doctor's office, The Hubster by my side, and comforted them both. "It's okay," I said, "It's my turn. I'm going to be okay." ...And I am. I am strong, because He gives my strength. I am brave, because He is always beside me. I am positive, because He gives me peace. I am an encourager, because I am following His will for my life. My Savior has been by my side, every step of the way. I am so grateful...for my life, my family, my friends, my faith. I want no other. On Monday, I start six weeks of radiation treatments in Winfield, five days a week. Please continue to lift me up in prayer. I promise to bring your names to my Father's throne daily. If you comment on this post, or on the Female in Motion Facebook page, I will put your name in my prayer jo...

God is my GPS

Image
The Hubster and I took a road trip last weekend. I am, and have always been, directionally challenged. In the past, I printed up directions from Google or Yahoo, read them off to The Hubster as he drove, and we invariably got lost. This trip, we made a change. I got The Hubster a Garmin GPS system for his birthday last fall. He thanked me kindly, tinkered with it a bit, then put it in a box in the closet. Until last weekend. He got it out, dusted it off and keyed in the destination of our trip. Something interesting happened. When we were nearing downtown Dallas, the Garmin advised us to leave the highway and take another road. Since we had been there before, we knew this was not correct. We didn't understand, but we followed. Turns out, the GPS had routed us around a large traffic jam and saved us a bunch of extra time on the road. There are some big changes coming in my life. I can't see the traffic up ahead, but God can. He knows the direction I should take. If I fo...

Prayer is Powerful

Image
Luke 18:1b (KJV)                                                       " ...that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; " Last year, a Christian friend started a Facebook group, called "Prayer Warriors." The only requirement is you pray at least once for the requests that are made on the page. Yesterday, a young woman we had prayed for several months passed away. I have to admit, it hit me hard. I never met her, but Ahna impacted my life. Prayer is powerful. When I wrote about getting "back on track" in my blog post last week, part of my intention was to get back to twice-daily devotion and prayer, and once-daily prayer with my husband. I'm not saying I had stopped praying. Sloppiness was my problem: A shor...
